Objective

‘Hullu vuosi 1991’ is a four-episode documentary series, produced by Nouhau Productions, which tells the story of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the resulting depression in Finland. Our aim was to create stunning visuals, dramatic pacing and engaging graphics for the show.

Implementation

A large portion of the filmed material was interviews of prominent political and industrial leaders of the 90s. We really wanted to emphasise the cinematography and lighting of these interviews because of their runtime. The editing phase focused on dramatisation while guiding the viewer through historical events.

In the show’s graphical design we wanted to highlight the dramatic nature of the events of 1991 with strong contrasts. We made the cover photo for Yle Areena as well as the show opening and infographics.
